How much does fracture (broken bone) repair for dogs cost?

CareCredit’s published cost data puts treating a dog’s broken leg at a national average of $1,371–$5,803 depending on the fracture and whether surgery is required, with fracture repair surgery itself averaging $2,615 (range $1,444–$3,500). At the specialty end, one named surgical practice — VetSurg — publishes fracture repair at $5,600–$8,400 on its fee schedule. Those are different kinds of source, so we keep them in separate rows rather than blending them.

What drives the price

CareCredit is explicit that surgery costs more than non-surgical care and that specialist or emergency treatment costs more than a family vet. Within surgery, the drivers are the bone involved, whether the fracture is simple or shattered (comminuted), and the fixation method — a splint, pins, or a plate. The non-surgical route is not free either: CareCredit prices replacing a splint weekly over a typical six-week healing time at around $426 on average ($336–$774). Physical therapy or complications push any of these figures up.

Whether a fracture can be splinted or needs surgical fixation is a veterinary decision based on the X-rays — a femur fracture, for example, generally cannot be splinted. This page prices the treatments; it does not recommend one. Where repair is not possible, the alternative is sometimes amputation — priced on the amputation cost guide.
