How much does veterinary hospitalization cost per night?
Hospitalization is the per-night line that quietly decides most big vet bills. MetLife Pet Insurance publishes overnight animal hospitalization at $800–$1,500 per night. CareCredit’s cost data puts an overnight stay at an emergency clinic at an average of $866, with a range of $687–$1,569. Routine post-operative boarding bundled into a surgical package is priced lower — Pawlicy’s published add-on stack for cruciate surgery, for example, lists hospitalization at $300–$1,000 for the stay.

What drives the price
The level of care is the whole story: a stable patient being observed after routine surgery needs a kennel and checks, while an ICU patient needs IV fluids, oxygen, continuous monitoring and nursing through the night — MetLife’s service table prices oxygen therapy alone at $800–$3,000. Facility type is the second driver (a 24-hour emergency hospital prices nights above a general practice), and the third is simply the number of nights, which is set by the condition, not the wallet. Hospitalization stacks on top of nearly every emergency in the emergency vet cost guide — bloat, IVDD and fracture cases typically stay one to several nights.
How long a pet needs to stay is a clinical decision, and discharge timing affects both the bill and the outcome. Ask for the estimate to separate the nightly rate from the treatments billed alongside it — IV fluids, medications and recheck imaging are usually separate lines. This page prices the stay; it does not advise on discharge.
